The site occupies a prominent position at the southeastern corner of Cathedral Square and the immediate context is characterised by a mix of uses and building typologies reflecting successive phases of development.

To the northwest, Cathedral Square features the Grade I listed Cathedral Church of St Philip and its surrounding churchyard, enclosed by commercial buildings along Temple Row and Colmore Row.

The Great Western Arcade, a Grade II listed Victorian shopping arcade, lies immediately to the northwest of the site on Temple Row.

To the east, Martineau Place is located along Corporation Street, with proposals for redevelopment of this site currently at scoping stage. The surrounding streets, Temple Row, Corporation Street, Bull Street and Cherry Street, form part of Birmingham's pedestrian and tram network, with Bull Street and Corporation Street accommodating the West Midlands Metro tram route. The site is partially within the Colmore Row and Environs Conservation Area.

The site is situated within the City Core quarter of Birmingham City Centre, an area characterised by high density retail, commercial and civic uses. The wider city centre is undergoing significant transformation, with a number of large-scale developments under construction or with planning permission in the surrounding area, including the Paradise Masterplan to the northwest, where the 49-storey Octagon tower is currently under construction, and HS2 Curzon Street Station to the southeast.

The site is highly accessible by sustainable transport modes. Snow Hill Station is located approximately 150m to the northwest, Moor Street Station approximately 315m to the southeast and New Street Station approximately 230m to the southwest, providing national, regional and local rail connections. West Midlands Metro tram stops are located immediately adjacent to the site on Corporation Street and Bull Street. Frequent bus services operate from stops on Colmore Row, Corporation Street and Priory Queensway within a short walk of the site.
