Public Spaces To Be Proud Of

Attractive, connected, welcoming public open spaces are at the heart of this city centre regeneration scheme, just as they are across the entirety of the Birmingham Central Heart vision and beyond.

At Rackhams Place, we are planning to deliver 0.7hectares (7,000sqm) of redeveloped public realm. This would include:

• Widening Cherry Street and creating an urban linear park with an enhanced pedestrian environment
• Opening up the existing North Western Arcade and replacing the space with a new public square and an area linking between Corporation Street and Temple Row, currently being called Temple Walk Square
• Improving links through Cathedral Square and to the new HS2 Curzon Street Station
• Opening up and enhancing views of the Great Western Arcade’s southern entrance and historic façade

These enhancements would provide physical and visual amenity for visitors, employees and residents, including recreational space for the local community alongside amenity areas, biodiversity measures and new trees and other green infrastructure.
